The Enthusiastic Bootblack by H M Bateman, starts with an innocent scenario, a man needs his shoes polished, but the Bootblack on the street is an earnest and hardworking type. He takes so long polishing the boot that the man becomes frustrated and tries to pull his foot from the stand. The Bootblack does not let go and the man grabs hold of an omnibus to extract himself, pulling the polishing man with him until his boot comes off and the Bootblack carries on polishing as he lies in the street.
