Hogarth's political print for The Times depicts King George III as a fountain watering plants, with Prime Minister Bute as the chief gardener. Opponents of the King, John Wilkes (journalist) and Fanny Burney (novelist) are in the pillory, while members of Parliament shoot at the dove of peace. First published in 1790 after Hogarth's death, this print depicts Britain in a time of peace and prosperity. A gigantic palette dangling from the facade of a newly-erected public building indicates that the arts are flourishing under the King's rule
