King George III had from a young age a keen interest in how things worked and taught himself how to make buttons as a hobby. The British public at large poked fun at what was considered an unusual pastime for a King, and in the popular press he was often branded 'Turner' or 'Button Maker'. In this print, the King is shown indulging his hobby in favour of dealing with government petitions
