Born Bettina Riddle in Erie, Pennsylvania, she married Friedrich Karl August, the Baron von Hutten zum Stolzenberg, in 1897, was a novelist specialising in historical fiction. This photo was taken to publicise her first venture into acting in the part of Aunt Imogen in Pinkie and the Fairies, a part previously played by Ellen Terry.
