Both artists, are pictured in their Chelsea studio at work and with their two daughters, Doonie and Jane. Captain Orde was a WW1 pilot, long-serving secretary of the Royal Automobile Club but first and foremost an artist, best-known for his portrait of Battle of Britain pilots during the Second World War. Lady Eileen Orde, nee Wellesley (1887-1952) was a daughter of the 4th Duke of Wellington and an interesting artist who worked in a number of areas. She produced advertisements for the fashion designer Elspeth Phelps, made wallpaper designs and specialised in fabric painting on dresses and fans.
