We here are presented with a view of the harbour somewhat different from -the one previously shown. The houses looking down upon it belong to that part of the town known as the Citta Vittoriosa, and are in some cases of great antiquity. At one time they were the residences of the old Maltese nobility and gentry, but they have now passed into the occupation of the sailors, boatmen, and others whose business is carried on in such places. The Grand Harbour is of comparatively modern construction, though it is actually built upon the lines of an ancient one that existed here as long back as the time when St. Paul visited the island.
