Tara Pacific expedition - november 2017 Bubble site, Normanby Island, Papua New Guinea, D: 3 m, Tara visited this volcanic seascape to evaluate how the coral's collection of bacteria or 'microbiome' shifts across these habitats from the most acidic portions to the sites that have standard seawater pH. This reef was devoid of most corals closest to the volcanic seeps but idyllic not 50 meters away. Corals within the bubble zone had clear portions eaten away but never-the-less seemed to be thriving. We hope to understand if the bacteria present in these corals assist in their resistance to the pH and temperature changes
