Yohkoh solar observatory, illustration. Yohkoh ('Sunbeam') was a solar X-ray astronomy satellite that was launched into Earth orbit in 1991. Yohkoh's main mission was to monitor and record high-energy events such as solar flares and sunspots in order to increase understanding of the Sun's activity. Its mission ended in 2001.
