'Thomas Hills Everett, Aged Eleven Months', 1822. Portrait of Mrs Everitt and her son Thomas, 'the enormous baby'. Thomas was born at Enfield, Middlesex, in 1779, and was apparently normal sized at birth. He became a 'gigantic infant', however, and his father decided to exhibit him at Mr Owen's, a confectioner at 66 Cornhill in London, daily from 11 am until 4 pm. He died in 1780, at a time when more than one in five babies died before reaching their first birthday. From "Wonderful Characters: Comprising Memoirs and Anecdotes of the Most Remarkable Persons of Every Age and Nation", Vol. III, by Henry Wilson. [J. Robins and Co. Albion Press, London, 1821]
