'The Last Banquet of Alboin', (c570AD), 1890. Alboin (530s- 572) king of the Lombards from c560-572, during a feast in Verona, ordered his wife Rosamund to drink from a cup, made from the skull of her father Cunimund, who he had slain in 567AD, igniting the queen's determination to avenge her father. From "Cassell's Illustrated Universal History, Vol. III - The Middle Ages", by Edmund Ollier. [Cassell and Company, Limited, London, Paris and Melbourne, 1890. ]
