Radio galaxy 3C 305, composite image. This type II Seyfert galaxy has a supermassive black hole in its centre. Data from three different wavelengths have been used to create this composite image. Radio emissions (blue) are caused by the magnetic field of the giant black hole. Also included is optical and X-ray data. The radio data is from the Very Large Array (VLA) and the Multi-Element Radio Linked Interferometer Network (MERLIN) respectively. The X-ray data is from the Chandra X-ray Observatory. The optical data is from the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). This galaxy is around 600 million light years distant, in the constellation of Draco.
