Snowdon Lily, (Gagea serotina, synonym Lloydia serotina), flowering on a cliff on Snowdon, North Wales. In Great Britain, this plant is an ice age relict and seems to have developed in isolation since the glacial period. It is only found on a few inaccessible sites in Snowdonia National Park. Although the total Welsh population may be fewer than 100 plants, they are genetically distinct and more diverse than other populations found in the Alps. It is believed that the Snowdon Lily will be the first plant to go extinct in Britain as a result of global warming.
