Lava flows in the Grand Canyon, infrared satellite image. The lava fields brownish gray, darker than the layers of limestone, sandstone and other rock in the canyon. Vegetation appears green, and sparsely vegetated areas appear mustard. Water in the Colorado River is blue-purple. Some of these lave flows have been exposed and eroded by the geological forces that formed the Grand Canyon, Arizona, USA. This image was obtained on 22 June 2003 by the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) on NASA's Terra satellite. For a perspective version of this image, see C048/1842.
