South American lowlands people, 19th-century illustration. These people are referred to as 'antis', a term used by the Quechua people of South America to refer to the lowland inhabitants who they believed were descended from Mexicans. Illustration published in 1864 in an account of the travels of explorer Paul Marcoy in South America.
