Illustration of the mosasaur Tylosaurus proriger chasing a Dolichorhynchops sp. plesiosaur. Mosasaurs are extinct marine reptiles that lived during the late Cretaceous (100-66 million years ago). They had a long, barrel-shaped body, paddle-like flippers and a large heavy skull. T. proriger grew to around 14 metres in length. It was a dominant predator of the Western Interior Seaway in what is now North America.
