Donald Lynden-Bell (1935-2018), British astrophysicist. Lynden-Bell worked on theories of galactic structure, including the role of quasars and black holes, galactic jets and general relativity. He was Professor of Astrophysics at the University of Cambridge (1971-1997), and President of the Royal Astronomical Society (1985-1987). He was awarded the Royal Astronomical Society's Eddington Medal (1984) and its Gold Medal (1993), as well as the Bruce Gold Medal of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific (1998). An asteroid has been named in his honour.
