Stitches in an 84 year old woman's wrist following surgery to repair a pseudoaneurysm. A pseudoaneurysm is a collection of blood between the outer layers of an artery. The pseudoaneurysm occured after the radial artery of the arm was used to access the coronary artery for a coronary angiogram. An angiogram uses a radiopaque contrast medium injected into the blood vessels and multiple X-rays to show the structure and size of the blood vessels. It highlights any narrowing or damage to the vessels.
