Space weathering on Bennu asteroid surface, Origins Spectral Interpretation Resource Identification Security Regolith Explorer (OSIRIS-REx) image. Reds and blues represent the length of time that areas on the surface have been exposed. Red areas have been exposed for the least amount of time. Vivid blue areas have been exposed to space weathering for an intermediated amount of time. Decreasing intensity of the blue corresponds to increasing time exposed to space. Green areas are deposits of the mineral pyroxene. Black indicates no data. The OSIRIS-REx spacecraft launched in 2016 and arrived at the asteroid 101955 Bennu in December 2018. As well as obtaining samples for return to Earth in 2023, it is studying the asteroid. Image obtained by the OSIRIS-REx MapCam camera.
