Illustration showing the destruction of the town of Port Royal during the 1692 Jamaica Earthquake. The Earthquake killed over 4,000 people. Most of the buildings in the town sank because they were constructed on sand. The earthquake also caused landslides and a tsunami. Illustration by Dutch artist Jan Luyken published in 1698.
