It is the first known medieval accusation against Jews of ritual murder. The "Catholic Encyclopedia" states that William "is the earliest example of a medieval blood libel saint". A particular feature of the Church of St Peter and St Paul is the magnificent late-15th century rood screen which has a loft and rood designed by Ninian Comper in 1925.
