Asteroid Impact Mission. Illustration of the Asteroid Impact Mission (AIM) spacecraft at its target, the binary asteroid 65803 Didymos. AIM was part of the Asteroid Impact and Deflection Assessment (AIDA) mission. AIM was cancelled and replaced with the HERA spacecraft, due to launch in 2023 and arrive as the asteroids in 2027. It has a similar aim, to study the crater caused by the impact of a mission known as DART (Double Asteroid Redirection Test). This is a test of whether such an impact would deflect an asteroid heading towards Earth.
