Photograph, World War Two, Balkans (1941-1945), 1944. The Special Boat Squadron/Service (SBS), under Major George Jellicoe, was created in March 1943 from the men of No. 1 Section Special Boat Section and other commandos who had been serving with the Special Air Service in North Africa. This took part in raids in the Aegean, often using small shallow draught fishing boats called caiques to blend in with local shipping, as well as canoes and dinghies.
