Teaching Tank Corps Recruits Gunnery. The instructor on the platform above projects the landscape film, while the recruit below fires at it. Picture taken at Pinehurst camp, South farnborough. Where recruits of the 4th Batt. Are in training. The royal tank corps make the most versatile soldiers, for the men are trained so that they can undertake every duty in a Tank - crew, driver, gunner or wireless operator, one feature of the training which is peculiar to the tanks battalions is a system of training gunners to fire at moving targets from an erratically moving gun turret and another to place him in a revolving dummy turret opposite a landscape target. The instructor is seated on a platform above and projects pictures from a cinematograph film on to the target. The recruit has to train his gun on these pictures, and if is laid accurately, the "shot" is electrically recorded. October 9, 1939. (Photo by Keystone).
