Edfu, Egypt - 1 December 2012 Man in the shadows of the Edfu Temple, Egypt. This beautiful and immaculately preserved temple, dedicated to the falcon god Horus, was built in the Ptolemaic period between 237 and 57 BC. It is located on the West Bank of the Nile. Horus was one of the most significant ancient Egyptian deities who served many functions, most notably god of kingship and the sky. He is usually shown with the double crown of Egypt adorning his falcon head.
