Malassezia folliculitis in a 25 year old Hispanic female patient. This is an inflammation of the hair follicles (folliculitis) caused by Malassezia sp. (formerly Pityrosporum) yeast fungi. Malessezia is part of the normal flora of the skin, but in some instances it can proliferate and cause small itchy papules and pustules. It is more common in adolescents with oily skin in a humid environment. It is treated with topical or oral anti-fungal drugs.
