A new study published in Neuron offers clues as to why autism spectrum disorders are more common in boys than girls. National Institutes of Health scientists have found that a single amino acid change in the NLGN4 gene, which has been linked to autism symptoms, can cause this difference in some cases. The study was conducted at the NIH's National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.
