Distortion of the foot of a 24 year old female patient following surgery for club foot in childhood. Club foot (congenital talipes equinovarus, CTEV) is a congenital deformity in which one or both feet appear to be rotated inwards so that the patient cannot stand with the sole of the foot flat on the ground. The defect can usually be corrected by orthopaedic splinting in the early months of infancy. Uncorrected, the foot may adapt by forming calluses - toughened areas of skin that become relatively thick and hard in response to repeated friction, pressure, or other irritation.
