TWO EXCEPTIONAL KHON-MASKS. PAPIER-M翪H?
Thailand. Rattanakosin dynasty (from 1782). 19th c.

Papier-m鈉h? painted and gilded; with small cut glass mirrors; eyes from painted glass. Both masks with a lively expression. The mask of Ganesha with the typical broken tusk and small skulls as ear hangings. The tiger with fangs of mother-of-pearl and real whiskers. Both are wearing beautiful crowns. The excellent quality of the two masks suggests that they were used in a courtly Khon ensemble. Ganesha height 54cm; width 33cm; tiger height 47cm; width 24cm. Condition A/B. Supplement: Each on a metal base.
