Tomb of Publius Vibius Marianus erroneously called since the Middle Ages the Tomb of Nero (tombe de Neron; tomba di Nerone; grab von Nero). It is a big marble sarcophagus with a double-pitched cover placed on a high base; on the outskirts of Rome; along the ancient Via Cassia. It is known for centuries as the famous Roman emperor's burial place. Actually the grave belonged to Publius Vibius Marianus; procurator of Sardinia; and his wife Regina Maxima. On the sarcophagus front; in the centre; is an inscription that mentions the names of the dead couple. The monument dates back to the third century AD around 200 years after Nero's death in 68.
