MADONNA Virgin of Host齨; representation of the nineteenth-century Madonna of lightning located in the minor Basilica of Svat?Host齨; a pilgrimage destination in the archdiocese of Olomouc; in Moravia. According to tradition; in 1241 the population refugees on the mountain to escape the devastation of the Tatars of Genghis Khan poured in extreme conditions; with neither water nor food; by grace of the Virgin a spring gushed miraculously saved them from hunger and thirst; and after three months of siege a tremendous storm with lightning fell in the field of the besiegers forced them to flee. Maria Vittoriosa is represented in a halo of light; with her feet on the crescent moon; and in her arms the little boy who throws the lightning on the enemy camp.
