Exterior of Thieves' House in West Street, (formerly called Chick Lane) Clerkenwell, London. Situated on the west side of Fleet River. Lodging house was pulled down for Clerkenwell improvements, years prior to that it was once the Red Lion Tavern. In 1844, there was reports of theives and prostitution inside the vast rooms with trap-doors, sliding panels, false walls, various hiding places and escape routes for robbers and murderers.
