Epithelioid trophoblastic tumour, light micrograph. Epithelioid trophoblastic tumour belongs to the group of gestational trophoblastic disease. It usually occurs in women of reproductive age and is associated with elevation of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) levels. It is composed of intermediate trophoblastic cells arranged in solid nests and clusters in a hyalinised matrix. The appearance closely resembles squamous cell carcinoma or pleomorphic carcinoma.
