X-ray of the chest of a 69 year old male patient with asbestosis. Asbestosis is a lung disease caused by the inhalation of asbestos fibres, which cause scarring of the lung tissue (white areas). This patient had previously worked in a factory that produced asbestos-based products. The scarring causes shortness of breath and a persistent cough. There is no cure for asbestosis.
