Shore crab (Carcinus maenas), a member of the family Portunidae. The colour is highly variable. It is usually found in rock pools, sandy estuaries and other similar habitats. The shore crab is a native to European and North African shores, but is one of the worlds most invasive species being found across the coastlines of all the main continents.
