Suicide Attempt -- John Furtado, 32, longshoreman at the Oakland Army Base, struggles with officers on the San Francisco about a mile east of Yerba Buena island and climbed up a cantilever girder Patrolman Luke Morley of the California Highway Patrol went up after him and succeeded in talking him down. When Furtado reached the roadway other officers attempted to put handcuffs on him. Outraged, Furtado ran to railing above, but was tackled before he could jump.
