Phlyctens in the eye of a patient. A phlycten or phlyctenule is an inflamed nodule on the conjunctival and corneal epithelium of the eye. Phlyctens occur as an allergic response to foreign antigens, such as certain bacteria and parasites, and are more common in undernourished children living in poor conditions.
