Official portrait of Andreas Mogensen (born 1976), Danish engineer and European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut. He was the first Dane to fly to space as part of the ESA's iriss mission to the International Space Station (ISS) on 2 September 2015. Mogensen attended school in Copenhagen. He obtained a master's degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Imperial College London in 1999. He then earned a PhD in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin in 2007. In addition to his work with the ESA, he has been involved in many space-related projects throughout his career with NASA and other agencies. Mogensen returned to the ISS onboard the SpaceX Dragon 2 spacecraft for his second spaceflight as part of the Huginn mission in August 2023. Huginn will be Mogensen's first long-duration mission where he will work and live for 6 months. He will conduct over 30 experiments on climate, health and space, varying from water filtration to understanding thunder phenomena.
