Illustration of a Nyctosaurus pterosaur on the shore of the Western Interior Seaway in what is now the mid-western USA. This flying reptile had the longest known cranial crest, measuring up to half a metre. It was also unusual amongst pterosaurs as it had lost all but one of its clawed fingers on it wings, leading scientists to speculate that it spent most of its time on the wing. It lived between 85-84.5 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous.
