The mammoth skeleton exhibits at the Petersburg museum: engraving by Edouard Riou from Louis Figuier's book ??La Terre avant le deluge????? Hachette edition 1872. The body of the mammoth preserved in the ice was discovered in 1799 at the mouth of the Lena River. In 1806; the skeleton was reconstructed and exhibited in Petersburg next to the skeleton of a 19th century Indian elephant.
