Scarring and alopecia on the scalp of an African American male patient with dissecting cellulitis. This scalp condition is a chronic suppurative disease characterized by many follicular and perifollicular inflammatory nodules. Those nodules suppurate, can join up, and may result in alopecia (hair loss) and scarring. It may be seen as a variant of cystic acne. The primary lesions are follicular and perifollicular erythematous papules which may progress to abscesses.
