Illustration of the interior of the Galerie des Machines (Gallery of Machines) at the Universal Exposition (World Fair) of 1889 in Paris, France. This event marked the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. The exhibition halls contained over 60,000 exhibits, seen by over 32 million visitors. The pavilion for the Gallery of Machines was designed by French architect Charles-Louis Ferdinand Dutert. Built from iron and glass, it was 114 metres across, 380 metres long, and reached a peak height of 45 metres. It was demolished in 1909. Illustration from 18889.
