Newly-hatched salmon (family Salmonidae) alevins (sac fry). After hatching, the alevins remains attached to their yolk sac. In this developmental stage the juvenile salmon grow by absorbing the nutritious yolk. Salmon at this stage are largely immobile. They start to swim as fry, when they begin to feed on plankton.
