Illustration of NASA's Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) spacecraft approaching the binary near-Earth asteroid Didymos. DART launched in November 2021 and impacted the asteroid moonlet Dimorphos (upper left) in September 2022. The DART collision was a test of whether such an impact would deflect an asteroid heading towards Earth. The test was successful, altered the orbit of Dimorphos around Didymos by 32 minutes.
