Cracks in Brunt ice shelf in Antarctica, satellite image. North is at top. The Brunt ice shelf is an area of floating ice bordering the Coats Land coast in the Weddell Sea sector of Antarctica. A large crack is at right, running northwards. Another crack runs from upper centre to top right, and is known as the Halloween Crack. These cracks may result in the detachment from the shelf of an area of ice the size of Greater London. This image was obtained by the Operational Land Imager (OLI) on Landsat 8, on 23 January 2019.
