Giuseppe Sanarelli (1864-1940), Italian microbiologist. Sanarelli studied at the University of Siena, followed by work with Pasteur in Paris. He worked in Uruguay (at the University of Montevideo) before returning to Italy and working at the University of Bologna (from 1898), before moving to the University of Rome (1915) where he worked until 1935. His research included typhoid fever, cholera, tuberculosis, myxomatosis, yellow fever, and what would later be identified as leptospirosis. This photographed dates from when Sanarelli was working in Rome.
