James Lovelock (born 1919), British environmentalist and author of the 'Gaia Hypothesis'. Lovelock's proposition is that the biosphere is a self-regulating system, in many respects similar to an organism, but on a global scale. In his book 'The Revenge of Gaia' (2006), shown in his hand, he argues that human effects on the Earth will lead to catastrophic climate change.
