Close-up of Martian rock taken by the Perseverance rover. This rock, from the Maaz rock target, has a basaltic composition and is either an igneous rock or is formed from fine grains of igneous material that were bound together in a watery environment. When imaged the rock was 3.17 meters from the rover. The image field of view is 6 centimetres in daimeter. Perseverance successfully touched down in Jezero Crater on 18th February 2021. It will study the geology of Mars and search for signs of life. Image obtained by the SuperCam's Remote Micro-Imager (RMI) instrument on 2 March 2021.
