Patient with dressing applied after excess fluid has been drained from the chest. The excess fluid is from a pleural effusion, the accumulation of fluid in the spaces around the lungs. The fluid compresses the lungs, leading to breathing difficulties. It can be caused by heart failure, liver disease, lung infections and cancer.
