Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a Ramazzottius kretschmanni water bear or tardigrade. This species is newly discovered and was first described in 2022. It was found in the Black Forest National Park, Germany, in moss on dead tree trunks. R. kretschmanni feeds on algae and moss and is able to withstand long phases of drought. It is about 0.25mm in length. Magnification: x700 when printed at 15cm wide.
