Sir Arthur C. Clarke (1917-2008) gazing at the moon. Clarke was a British science fiction writer, inventor and futurist who gained fame for his classic science fiction novels. In his short story The Sentinel (1948) one of Clarkes characters wrote, I can never look now at the Milky Way without wondering from which of those banked clouds of stars the emissaries are coming,. This story which was the basis for his book 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968). Clarke was a passionate advocate of space exploration. In 1999, hair samples were collected from him which will soon be transported to the Moon on the Celestis Tranquility Flight launched in January 2024. Along with the hair samples, a message from Clarke will also be sent on the journey, and it reads, Farewell My Clone!
